What is SSRC?

Sometimes, children and young people need extra support beyond what can be provided in a foster or kinship setting. That’s where Specialised Supported Residential Care (SSRC) comes in.

SSRC is a structured, around-the-clock care arrangement for children and young people who need a higher level of support due to complex needs, risk factors, or challenging circumstances. It’s about creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment when other options aren’t suitable or available.

How SSRC works with us

At Tree of Goals, we provide SSRC placements that are guided by care, professionalism, and genuine understanding. Our homes are staffed 24/7 by trained, qualified people who know how to support children and young people during tough times.

Our team is hands-on, easy to reach, and trained to manage safety, behaviour support, health needs, and emotional care. Every young person we support gets a plan tailored to their situation, and we check in regularly to make sure it’s working.

We’re also fully registered to provide SSRC placements, which means we meet the standards set by the relevant state departments. That includes:

  • Appropriate staff qualifications and supervision
  • Strong systems for risk and incident management
  • Clear reporting processes and record-keeping
  • A focus on trauma-informed, therapeutic support

Examples of care arrangements under SSRC

What does SSRC include?

SSRC can look a little different depending on what’s needed. It may involve:

  • A short- or longer-term stay in one of our supported homes
  • Emergency or crisis placements
  • Arrangements in respite, hotel, or Airbnb-style environments (where approved)
  • Care that includes overnight stays of three nights or more with a host or in a group setting
  • Behaviour support and other therapeutic programs
  • NDIS-funded support and accommodation

We make sure every arrangement is logged properly on the SSRC register so there’s transparency and oversight. The goal is to avoid children being placed in care for long periods without review or support.
